I found the hotel to be a lovely place with a rich history. the host was very friendly. the kitchen was great. It had plenty of coffee tea and breakfast cereals available.
the stairs to the room were quite steep and narrow i did have to watch my step carefully.

Diana welcomed me warmly and even allowed an early check-in. she showed me around, highlighting everything! the views from the hotel included the stadium of light. It was excellent.
the unstaffed nature of the place meant noise wasn't controlled. at 2:45 am, a loud argument erupted in the corridor! this disturbance lasted a solid 15-20 minutes.

The room was indeed spacious and well appointed. The communal balcony offered views of the area. I appreciated the access to the Italian restaurant downstairs, though it closes early. The location had easy access to Sunderland City Centre, about a ten minute walk.
The stairs to the room were a bit steep , I think families with small children should be aware.
