adequate stay with some drawbacks

historic window window enclosure overcooked fish breakfast quality
the historic window in the bathroom was a nice touch. the bedroom featured a theatre-style multicolored window enclosure, which i found visually interesting. the hotel corridors felt historic.
i found the fish in the fish and chips order overcooked (it was dry and tough). the breakfast i had was almost inedible, and extras were charged.

Balanced stay

convenient location old world vibe jazz music night noise numerous stairs musty smell
The location was convenient for transport. I appreciated the old world vibe of the hotel. The atmosphere felt quite fabulous. After dinner, I enjoyed drinks in the lounge and listened to jazz music.
The hotel was noisy at night. I could hear strong winds. The stairs presented some challenges with baggage. I noticed a musty smell in the hallways and lift.

heritage feel town center ensuite facilities weak coffee dry eggs soft bed
the building has such a lovely heritage feel. it's close to the town center and train station. i particularly loved that i could leave all my toiletries in the shared ensuite facilities without impacting anyone.
The breakfast wasn't great. there was little choice, the coffee was weak, and the scrambled eggs were dry. it might be better to walk into town and find a cafe instead. the beds were too soft. After a day of hiking in the blue mountains, that didn't help my body recover!

expensive breakfast soft bed
The staff was lovely and attentive in both the restaurant and bar, a welcome change. The food was excellent. No complaints there.
My stay wasn't without its hitches. The continental breakfast at $30 a head seemed a tad extravagant. the bed felt too soft, like sleeping on a cloud made of marshmallows. I woke up with a slight neck ache, so that was not ideal.
