Jolly Sailor Inn resides in the historic Yorkshire Village of Cawood, just 10 miles south of York and 4 miles west of Selby. The pub has been serving the community since 1840, reflecting a long history of hospitality. Close proximity to the River Ouse provides scenic views and a glimpse into local heritage.

Dining

True Gem in Yorkshire

warm atmospherehome-cooked foodfriendly localdistant bathroom
The landlady was cute and helpful. She created a warm atmosphere. I appreciated the home-cooked food (i think it was delicious). The locals were friendly, sharing stories and laughter.
The shared bathroom was not en suite. It was located a bit far from my room. This meant a short walk down the corridor, which wasn't ideal, especially at night.

The hotel's location provided easy access to nearby attractions. It was a short drive to Esrick, where i attended a wedding (great!). The village itself was quiet and charming.

Really good Hospitality and Community Feel

clean roomfriendly atmospherehelpful staffbar noise
The landlady was an asset, and the staff helped me book a taxi. The overall atmosphere was friendly with the room kept clean. I especially appreciated the cleanliness of the kitchen and wash facilities (there were more facilities than expected).
I noticed some noise from the bar later in the evening. It resonated through into my room, and it became a disturbance.
Location

The hotel offered easy access to York and it was convenient for my travel plans. The village was lovely with plenty to do and a nearby church housed kind people. I found the setting very pleasant.
Rooms

My room was spacious and included real furniture, not clothes racks. It had a flatscreen TV with a table and chairs (convenient for work). The bed was comfortable and the street view was very nice.
Dining

The hotel had an excellent array of real ales. Home-cooked food smelled amazing, and I was told they are open every day. Cereal, bread, crumpets and butter were available to guests.
