Nubra Ecolodge, Sumur

Nubra Ecolodge is situated near the Sumur sand dunes in the Nubra Valley, forming the confluence of the Shyok and Nubra rivers. The hotel spans 11 acres of land, featuring a family home surrounded by poplar, willow, apricot, and apple trees. Guests benefit from 360-degree views of the Karakoram mountains and the Nubra river.

The hotel offers seven Ladakhi cottages and four wooden safari tents, all designed with decks and en suite bathrooms. Each unit provides panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains and the Nubra river valley. The Main house includes two guest rooms with en suite bathrooms and a large terrace for communal enjoyment.

Nubra Ecolodge serves home-cooked local Ladakhi and Indian cuisine, with meals provided on a fixed menu that highlights the region's flavors. Guests may enjoy dining either in the traditional dining area or on the open deck, depending on weather conditions. The organic vegetable garden ensures fresh ingredients, with options such as freshly baked Khambir and locally sourced milk.

The lodge is an ecotourism initiative operated by a local Ladakhi family who cultivate the surrounding land into a livable farm. Guests have the option to explore the nearby landscape with long walks along the Sumur sand dunes and the Nubra river. Interaction with local wildlife, seabuckthorn, and wildflowers enriches the overall experience.

Nubra Ecolodge is reachable from Leh by private car, taxi, or public bus, requiring a 5 to 6-hour drive encompassing the Khardung La pass. Mobile connectivity is available with BSNL, AIRTEL, and JIO networks in Nubra. The lodge operates on diesel-generated power during evening hours, highlighting its remote and natural setting.
