Vineyard and Production
Château La France spans over 90 hectares (222 acres), making it one of the largest estates in the Bordeaux region. The property cultivates 68 hectares of AOC Bordeaux Supérieur rouge and 10 hectares of AOC Bordeaux Blanc Sec. State-of-the-art techniques are utilized alongside traditional methods to express the best characteristics of the terroir.
Vinification Techniques
The vinification cellar at Château La France uses a specialized gravity system, eliminating the need for pumps and pipes. This innovative equipment helps preserve the highest quality and aromatic potential of the grapes. Wines are aged in French oak barrels for 12 months through regular tastings to ensure their development.
Reforestation and Sustainability
To address climate issues, the Mottet family implemented a voluntary reforestation program, planting over 130,000 trees across 84 hectares to capture significant CO2 emissions. Additionally, the estate participates in a hydropower project in the Democratic Republic of Congo as part of the United Nations Sustainable Development program. The commitment to sustainability is further reflected in the use of eco-friendly packaging.
Nearby Attractions
Château La France is conveniently located 20 kilometers from the historic village of Saint-Emilion, recognized as a World Heritage Site. Guests can explore a variety of outdoor activities, including beaches on the Atlantic coast and the Dune de Pyla, the highest sand dune in Europe. The estate is also close to several golf courses, cycling trails, and local shops.
Event Hosting and Amenities
The hotel offers a sister estate, Château de Seguin, featuring a newly renovated reception area of 300 m² for private and professional events. Guests can also enjoy wine tastings and direct purchases from the estate during their stay. A selection of cultural experiences, such as the Vitishow, adds educational value to the visit.
