A romantic countryside escape

warm welcomecomfortable beddinglocal treasuressteep stairs
Charles gave such a warm welcome, and the location was AMAZING!!! The house felt clean, and the bedding and pillows were very comfortable. The Black Horse Inn, recommended by our host, provided an excellent dinner. I really appreciated that he shared such local treasures.
The stairs felt steep and twisty, and I bumped my head twice on low beams. The central heating wasn't working. I wished we had been informed of this upon arrival. There was no heat available in the bathroom. This was not something I expected.
Location
9/10
The location provided a very quiet and beautiful setting, far away from any traffic. The hotel sat in a bucolic setting . There was a great pub nearby serving tasty authentic Indian food.
Service
10/10
Charles gave local recommendations and ensured we had what we needed. The breakfast was lovely, and Charles provided prompt assistance. Our host also gave us a ride when we were really tired. I found him very sweet.
Facilities
9/10
There was a wonderful cozy fireplace where I relaxed after dinner. The breakfast featured delicious homemade granola and a well-cooked full english breakfast. Humphrey the cat was especially cuddly, and his attention made an impression.
Rooms
10/10
The house felt spotlessly clean. This was important to me. Our room proved very comfortable and cozy . Bedding and pillows were very comfortable, something I particularly appreciated after long travel days.

warm welcomehomemade granolabad coffeebroken catch
the host was really friendly. he did gave us a warm welcome. the muesli and granola were made on the premises. we bought some to take home too, so that was nice.
the bedside light's didnt work. i think the complimentary coffee in the room didnt dissolve, and it tasted bad. no lock was on the door and the catch was broken, so i could not shut it properly when i left the room.

pleasant but slightly imperfect stay

attractive hoteltended hotelbroken catchdirty seating
i was happy the hotel itself is quite attractive and well tended. i especially enjoyed my evenings reading by the fire in the 'snug' after long days out walking (it was very peaceful).
i noticed there was no lock on the door and the catch was broken. this meant i couldn't properly shut the door when i was out of the room. i also found dried dog mess on the lawn, and the outside seating was dirty, so i couldn't use the outside space.

breakfast included tasty granola so i suppose that part met minimum expectations.
the room advertised as beautiful king was more like cramped king-ish. i tripped over a crooked floorboard near the bed and almost ate dust. the tv did not work and the host offered no assistance.
