The Manor House

Higher Melcombe Manor is a 16th-century Elizabethan manor house, built with flint and Ham & Portland stone. The estate is surrounded by hundreds of acres of open wood and farmland, offering scenic views. The manor includes numerous stone mullion windows, exposed beams, and a turning circle filled with lavender.

Accommodation

The hotel offers family-run bed-and-breakfast accommodations with two double rooms and one single room. The Garden Room and the Chapel Room provide private en-suite facilities on a separate floor, along with a shared lounge and kitchenette. The Monk's Room, a single accommodation, is situated separately and includes a private bathroom just down the hall.

Scenic Views

Set among open farmland, Higher Melcombe provides uninterrupted scenic views across rolling hills. The gardens surrounding the manor feature colorful flower borders, shaped hedges, and expansive lawns. Guests can enjoy serene outdoor spaces with a patio overlooking the gardens and farmland.

Working Farm

The estate is home to a working farm that includes a herd of hundreds of Hereford cattle. Fields produce a variety of crops such as beef, barley, wheat, maize, and rape, contributing to the British food industry. This direct connection with agriculture offers insight into rural life.

Family and Pets

The manor is pet-friendly, welcoming guests accompanied by dogs. Families can enjoy spacious accommodations that cater to both children and adults. The presence of three resident dogs adds a warm and inviting atmosphere for animal lovers.

local baconhistorical buildingfriendly dogs
The breakfast offered locally sourced bacon and sausage! i found the selection quite amazing. the building itself seemed very special and historical! it was situated in a distinct landscape, which i appreciated. there were animals nearby. I saw friendly dogs, horses, and cows.
the carpet felt a bit coarse to the touch.
