breakfast was wonderful. the room i stayed in, a double room, had character. the evening meal was superb.
I found the heater turned off at night. Hence, i woke up freezing cold.

i found a true gem! my room included a four poster bed and modern ensuite bathroom. breakfast was amazing and the meals served were wonderful. the hotel's location overlooks the river.

The staff was very helpful. They carried my suitcase for me and assisted me in crossing the road to the bus stop. this was especially useful because i don't like crossing the road there.

my superior double room included a jacuzzi bath, it offered very nice relaxation after my walks. antiques like the telephone reminded me of the james herriot series. a bible in each room added a thoughtful touch.

My room featured a comfortable four poster bed which enhanced the historical feel. The en suite bathroom was modern with a great walk-in shower it was easy to use. The staff were attentive to requests I had .
I found the noise from the road traffic disruptive. It prevented me from opening the windows.

adequate stay, some drawbacks
pleasant room good breakfast old furniture musty smell
breakfasts had a good choice. they were presented nicely. my room was perfectly pleasant with tea, coffee, and chocolate making facilities. a tv was available if i required it.
online, they mention refurbished rooms, but the furniture is quite old. i understand it is hard work to run a hotel with a bar and restaurant, but for what i paid, i expected better. the room had a musty smell and the heating wasn't enough, so the room was cold.

A Mixed Experience
musty smell flickering lights
The room I booked, the Double Room, had a distinct musty smell, which wasn't pleasant (a bit like grandma's attic). I also noticed some flickering lights, quite annoying. I found a bathroom down the hallway. Breakfast included a stray hair on my bacon. Not the best way to start the day.
