a decidedly average experience

musty odor extractor fan
the staff were indeed friendly and seemed eager to assist with directions.
The room, a 'superior double room sea view', felt anything but superior. the promised sea view was mostly obscured by overgrown trees. A minor detail, perhaps, yet indicative of a general lack of attention. the room also had a peculiar smell, a musty odor, definitely not fresh. it was an odd combination of stale air and a faint cleaning product. and, the noise from what i suspect was the kitchen extractor fan droned on late into the night. Earplugs became essential

a generally positive experience

wooden panelling caring staff plentiful breakfast cramped bar decaf coffee worn furniture
I appreciated the building's character with its wooden panelling. It was quite charming. the staff showed genuine care. This. i found breakfast plentiful offering a good start to the day.
The bar area felt cramped. Finding a place to sit was a challenge. i found only decaf coffee available in the room. the furniture was worn. This detracted from the room's overall appeal.

nice stay at a peaceful retreat

friendly staff gorgeous garden peaceful atmosphere
the building itself is excellent. i appreciated its character.
the limited dinner menu was a bit of a disappointment i found the choices somewhat restricted and would have liked a greater variety it did not fully meet my expectations given the otherwise high standard of the hotel. i hope they consider expanding it.

lovely stay!!!

well maintained grounds christmas decoration clean room
the grounds were very well maintained!!! it had beautiful christmas decorations. our room was warm and clean. it had plenty of tea, coffee, milk and biscuits.
the automated emails i received were excessive. the online checking in process was long winded, so i gave up midway through. the bar area is tired, with uncomfortable seats.
Dining

breakfast service was quick and efficient. the food was fantastic!!! the restaurant team provided really good customer service. the breakfast selection was good enough, and i enjoyed my meals.
Location

adequate stay, but some issues noticed

beautiful garden glass stain window friendly staff cheap furniture strange corner room upgrade
the gardens surrounding the hotel were beautiful. i liked the inside of the hotel too, i saw glass stain windows. the wooden panelling was nice. staff were friendly, nothing was too much.
upon arrival, we followed the stairs to our room. it felt a little like a janitor cupboard at the top of the stairs. the room was grey with cheap white furniture placed in corners of the room that seemed strange. i did ask about an upgrade but this wasnt possible.

great experience at beautiful building

beautiful building spacious room original style
the building were beautiful and overlooked the sea. the room were spacious. after my hikes in the lake district, i found it a perfect place to come back to. the building retained the original style of decor in the public areas. i liked the english country house style with comfortable bedrooms and extensive grounds.
the room had some minor things decor wise that needed attention. it was nothing major, but i noticed it.
