a charmed experience

mountain locationwell kept ryokanfriendly stafflovely onsen
the ryokan has a great location nestled in the mountains. this creates a real "getaway" feeling, far from city noise. the ryokan is aged, yet very well kept. i found the staff friendly and helpful. the three outdoor onsen, especially during snowfall, are lovely!!! i would definitely recommend them.
the futons were not particularly comfortable. it was not easy getting there from tokyo for just a short time in the pool. the food was only average.
Dining
9/10

i stayed in a beautiful tatami mat room. the window overlooked the river. it snowed almost the entire time. this made it unbelievably beautiful. the room was spacious. the room includes toiletries.
Location

the setting is wonderful. the ryokan is situated well into a mountain area. this gave me a feeling of a true getaway. it is away from city noise. it is surrounded by snowcap mountains and trees.

helpful staffpeaceful experienceoutdated buildingunpleasant smell
the staff was very helpful. they managed our luggage transfer from the station with ease. we enjoyed the outdoor onsens a lot. the location amongst trees and by the river provided a peaceful experience.
the building was quite outdated. the sink in our room had a crack. i also found the onsen pool had some moss build up. the washroom had a slight unpleasant smell of pee, distracting.
